He was the Minister of Economy, Industry, and Digital Affairs under Prime Minister Manuel Valls from 2014 to 2016, before to running for president. He began his political career in 2006 as a member of the Socialist Party, after working as an investment banker (PS). He ascended quickly in politics, serving as deputy secretary-general in Franois Hollande's first government in 2012 before moving on to other important posts in the Valls government. Macron was born into a well-educated middle-class family and studied Philosophy at the University of Paris-Ouest Nanterre La Dfense before enrolling at the Ecole Nationale d'Administration to prepare for a senior public service job (ENA). He worked as an investment banker at Rothschild & Cie Banque after serving as an Inspector of Finances in the French Ministry of Economy. When he first entered politics in 2006, he was quickly noticed by Francois Hollande, who adopted him as his protégé and nurtured him for political stardom. Macron established En Marche!, an independent political party, in 2016 and announced his candidacy for the 2017 French presidential election. He was elected President of France on 14 May 2017 after winning the presidential election on 7 May 2017. Macron, who is 39 years old, is the youngest person ever to be elected President of France.
