Harry Dean Stanton was an actor, singer, and musician from the United States. His illustrious career in show business spanned more than six decades, establishing him as a versatile performer. In films like 'Repo Man,' 'Paris, Texas,' 'Cool Hand Luke,' and 'Lucky,' he played both lead and supporting parts. Stanton liked singing and performing as a journalism and radio arts student at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. During WWII, he was a member of the US Navy and served aboard the USS LST-970 during the Battle of Okinawa. Following his return to university, he was inspired by British theatrical director Wallace Briggs and began acting instruction at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, California. With the anthology series Inner Sanctum, he made his television debut. In the Western picture Tomahawk Trail, he made his first credited film appearance. The road movie "Paris, Texas" gave him his big break. Stanton's other major acting credits include parts in films like "The Green Mile," "Pretty in Pink," and "Seven Psychopaths." He also starred in the television shows "Big Love" and "Twin Peaks." He toured nightclubs as a singer and guitarist, and he appeared in music videos by legends like Bob Dylan.
His father was Sheridan Harry Dean Stanton, a tobacco farmer.
