Northern James Calloway (September 10, 1948 – January 9, 1990) was an American actor and singer, best known for playing David on Sesame Street from 1971 through 1989. He was institutionalized in a psychiatric hospital and died less than eight months after his last appearance on the show.

Calloway is most known for his role as David on the iconic PBS children's show Sesame Street, though he also appeared in a number of Broadway productions (including Tiger at the Gates and The Me Nobody Knows).
Sadly, suffering from both cardiac issues and psychological problems, he died in his early forties. He was survived by his mother and his two siblings.
He attended New York City's High School of Performing Arts and starred in a Stratford Shakespeare Festival production of A Midsummer Night's Dream before joining the Sesame Street ensemble in 1971.
He acted in a 1973 London West End stage production of the musical Pippin.
He and Bob McGrath were both in the cast of Sesame Street.
