Jan van Riebeeck was born on April 21, 1619 (age 58) in Dutch Republic. He is a Celebrity Explorer. The South African Cape is said to have been founded by Jan van Riebeeck. He began his career as a Dutch Colonial administrator for the Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, which is now known as the Dutch-East India Company, and was responsible for the creation of Cape Town in South Africa. Riebeeck served at a number of trading posts around the world, including Tonkin, Indochina, Japan, and Batavia, but he is best recognized for paving the way for white immigrants in South Africa.
