Nathan Raymond MacKinnon (born September 1, 1995) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and alternate captain of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL). MacKinnon was selected first overall by the Avalanche in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Sometimes referred to as "Nate the Great", he is considered one of the premier offensive talents in the NHL and is known for being an exceptional performer in the postseason. MacKinnon currently has the sixth highest playoff points per game average in NHL history, trailing Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Leon Draisaitl, Barry Pederson and Connor McDavid.
